British Airways returns to Heathrow mid-flight
British Airways flight BA65 flying from London-Heathrow to Nairobi has returned to London-Heathrow mid flight.
British Airways flight BA65 had departed London-Heathrow at 10:30 and was heading to Nairobi using its B777-200ER registered as G-RAES when according to reports the pilot told ATC that “We had a message the Kenyan authorities have denied us access to their airspace”.
Initially the flight was flying at FL370 then headed to FL390 and made a U-turn back to London-Heathrow near Frankfurt and arrived at base at 12:17pm local time.
Suspension of flights
Kenyan Civil Authorities had on March 22nd issued a NOTAM also known as Notice to airmen stating suspension of all international flights into Kenya effective March 25th 23:59. It also added that only Cargo and emergency flights would be allowed with the crew expected to isolate within their airport hotels.
Latest news we have got is that British Airways flight BA65 has departed London-Heathrow and is heading to Nairobi once again. We don’t have adequate information though we have sought British Airways to give us information on this.
This is the second time in as many weeks that a flight has returned back to London-Heathrow for reasons similar to this. Last week a British Airways flight heading to Accra returned back for reasons similar to the above.
Though we don’t have adequate information as of now we are following it up for latest updates. Though British Airways flight BA65 in on air heading to Nairobi its surprising how they took off from Heathrow without adequate information regarding airspace opening and closure if that were the reason for it to come back.
