Oman Air operates Airbus A330-300 to Chennai for the first time. In its 23 years of presence in the capital city of Tamil Nadu, this was the first time the airline operated a wide body to Chennai from its hub Muscat. On its peak the airline operates close to three daily flights between Chennai and Muscat.

Oman Air predominantly deploys its B737 on this route. It was indeed a historical moment for the airline as well as the city. Oman Air is one of the most visible foreign airline in India with eleven destinations and close to 161 flights per week being operated from Muscat. India is also the second most important market for the airline with around 15% traffic contributed by the country.

FIRST TIME FOR AN A330 OMAN AIR IN CHENNAI

The airline was one of the most common airlines to be seen in Chennai. They used to operate their B737 between Muscat and Chennai pre-COVID. The airline also has been operating regular repatriation flights between Chennai and Muscat. On 24th September 2020, they operated their A330-300 for the first time ever to Chennai. The aircraft deployed on this route was registered as A40-DI. In depth flight details are as below.

MUSCAT-CHENNAI

The airline operated the flight from Muscat to Chennai as WY2253. The aircraft was A330-300 registered as A40-DI. The aircraft was 5.9 years old and was delivered in November 2014. The airline was scheduled to depart from Muscat International airport at 08:25 local time. Due a delay of two hours the airline departed at 10:19 local time.

The aircraft departed using runway 08L in Muscat and initially maintained FL410 before descending to FL390. The scheduled arrival was 13:45 local time in Chennai but due to the delay it arrived at 15:12 local time. The total flight journey was 03:24 hrs. CHENNAI-MUSCAT

The airline was operating a passenger flight on both inbound and outbound flights. After a layover at Chennai for around an hour and a half the airline departed from Chennai at 16:51 local time. The scheduled departure time was at 15:30 but due to the delay in the inbound flight the departure was also delayed.

The aircraft departed using runway 07 from Chennai and after a left bank on departure it maintained FL380 throughout the flight. The scheduled arrival at Muscat was 17:45 but it landed at 18:30 local time after a flying time of 03:11 hrs. Here are some exclusive pictures of the airline departing from Chennai.
