Go Air suspends international services
Go Air is an Indian budget carrier which provides international and domestic services. It has a fleet of 57 Airbus aircrafts serving 38 destinations with 27 of them domestic and11 of the cities being international. It was a rapid international expansion with expansion to 11 cities within 14 months. It operates 325 flights daily with 2200 weekly flights.
Suspension of international flights
Go Air on tuesday announced suspension of international flights and is said to offer unpaid leave for its employees on a rotational basis. Go Air flies to a number of international destinations such as Male, Abu Dhabi, Muscat, Phuket and Singapore.
“GoAir has also initiated a short-term and temporary rotational leave without pay program that will not only help the company counter the short-term reduction in capacity, but will also ensure that a cross section of our employees stay away from the workplace to ensure business continuity” said a spokesperson in a statement.
This suspension of international flight would be from March 17th to the April 15th. The reasons are due to low demand for flights as countries are imposing travel bans and restrictions in order to prevent the spread of coronavirus. This comes in a day after a report by CAPA which had said most airlines would be bankrupt by the end of May this year if the current trend in aviation continues.
